First the armed robbery in the tobacconist's bar in Monastir, then the hasty escape and the desperate attempt to barricade themselves in the house after the arrival of the Carabinieri.
Alarm was raised this morning in Nuraminis , when the 36-year-old perpetrator of the attempted robbery in Monastir barricaded himself in his home. Mediators from the Cagliari Provincial Command and two Carabinieri Operational Support Teams (SOS) subsequently intervened to stop him.
It all started around 7 a.m., when a masked individual armed with a gun burst into the Monastir establishment . The owner's resolute reaction, however, forced him to flee empty-handed, driving away in a Ford Focus.
The Carabinieri investigation concluded within hours with the analysis of municipal video surveillance footage, which allowed them to trace the vehicle and its owner: a 36-year-old resident of Nuraminis, already known to law enforcement . Inside the car, still parked near the residence, the Carabinieri found the balaclava presumably used during the robbery and a small amount of hashish.
When the officers located the man, he was alone in the house and unresponsive to repeated attempts to contact him, either by the officers or by his father, who had rushed to the scene. Fearing he might still be armed, the area was immediately cordoned off.
A high-intensity operation was thus activated: the mediators attempted to establish a dialogue, while the special teams prepared to raid the premises. When the operators managed to reach the 36-year-old, they found him unarmed and asleep, likely under the influence of sedatives.
During subsequent searches, the Carabinieri also discovered five marijuana plants grown on the home's terrace, as well as other evidence deemed useful in strengthening the evidence surrounding the attempted robbery. The man was therefore also charged with possession with intent to sell.
At the end of the operations , the 36-year-old was arrested and transferred to prison in Uta , where he remains at the disposal of the Judicial Authorities.
