A "real offer" deemed appropriate by the judge. That is, €1,500 to settle the case in which regional councilor Emanuele Cera was accused of defamation.
The incident dates back about a year, when the councilor responded to a comment from Marco Paolo Angius, a Terralba resident who had intervened in a discussion about healthcare issues in Oristano and Sardinia. The Fratelli d'Italia representative had responded with words deemed offensive. "You're funny, but those who know you also know how stupid and retarded you are," he wrote.
Initially, the case was dismissed, but Angius, assisted by attorney Gesuino Loi, appealed, resulting in the case being sent to trial. Yesterday, the pre-trial hearing took place, in which Cera's defense attorneys (Ezio Ullasci and Valerio Matrtis) proposed an offer of €1,500 as reparation. The contested comment was also deleted from social media. Both prosecutor Marco De Crescenzo and judge Chiara Lai deemed the offer appropriate, and the proceedings were thus dismissed. The injured party reserves the right to read the reasons and then evaluate any countermeasures.
