The 38-year-old man who suffered burns in the explosion at his home on Sunday morning remains hospitalized in critical condition at Sassari Hospital. Aleandro Frau is being closely monitored by doctors, but initial findings indicate his life is not in danger.
Meanwhile, firefighters are continuing their investigations to determine the cause of the incident: an explosion that only by chance prevented a tragedy. Initial reconstructions suggest that the air in a room of the second-floor house on Via Boccaccio was saturated with gas, which had leaked simultaneously from two cylinders.
It seems unlikely that both gas cylinders were defective, but further investigations will clarify exactly what actually happened in that house. There was certainly a gas leak, followed by a spark and that explosion, with a roar heard all the way to the center of town. It was a moment of great turmoil, with neighbors immediately rushing out into the street, and even Aleandro Frau managed to escape the inferno of fire and smoke. The 38-year-old, however, suffered burns to several parts of his body and was transferred to the hospital in Sassari, where he remains hospitalized.
The damage to his home was extensive, and nearby buildings were also damaged.
