The nightmare began shortly before 11:00 a.m. By the time the roadworks were cleared up, the traffic lights replaced, and the traffic controllers were deployed, Terna's Tyrrhenian Link construction site reopened on the coastal road to Villasimius, in the stretch from just after Marina Residence to Capitana and then Terramala, on the Quartu coast. Once the traffic lights regulating the one-way system went into operation, chaos began.
Everyone is queuing behind the plant, along with motorists and, especially, local residents, who are exasperated. A nightmare year awaits them. Reopened today, the work is authorized, as per the ordinance of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, until June 30, 2027.
"It's absurd to start in September," says local resident Bruno Mura. "The beaches are still crowded, with so many vacationers going to the beach, and this traffic is compounded by the residents who have to endure long lines under the scorching sun to get home. It could have been postponed until at least October, and in any case, other solutions could have been found."
It's not just the traffic, but the extremely high risk of accidents. Just a few minutes near the construction site near Stella di Mare 1 are enough to notice several drivers speeding past the line, crossing into the other lane, and running the red light.
