Condolences are deep and sincere in Tempio Pausania and beyond, for the untimely passing of Doctor Elio Tamponi, longtime head of the emergency room at Paolo Dettori Hospital, a longtime leader in healthcare in the upper Gallura region. "We all saw him working on the front lines, going far beyond what his profession would have required: with care, a sense of duty, and rare dedication," commented Tempio Mayor Gianni Addis. "He was not only a respected doctor, but a true inspiration for entire generations," said Calangianus Mayor Fabio Albieri, speaking about Dr. Tamponi, a native of Calangianus. "A man who dedicated his life to caring for others with professionalism, humanity, and tireless dedication, becoming a fundamental pillar of our local healthcare system."

And there are those who remember him particularly during the sad times of Covid, committed on the front lines to address a healthcare situation that was completely unexpected in its severity and scale. "And even afterward, in recent years, when it would have been natural to stop, he continued to work hard," Mayor Addis wrote. "Even though he was retired, he continued to offer his presence and help, along with a few other volunteers, to try to overcome the structural deficiencies and difficulties of the service. He did so with a spirit of responsibility, with respect for the healthcare institution, and, above all, out of love for our city."
