Technological innovation, the conference "Ultra-fast networks, challenges and opportunities in the Region of Sardinia" in Cagliari
The point on the situation on the island and the difficulties to overcomeA necessary objective, that of technological innovation and fast connections, to be achieved very quickly and in all areas of Sardinia.
This morning, at the Palazzo Civico in Cagliari, the conference "Ultra-fast networks, challenges and opportunities in the Region of Sardinia" was held, where - in the presence of representatives of regional politics and of the telecommunications operators themselves - the situation on the island was debated on the difficulties at all levels to be filled.
«Telecommunications represent, above all for Sardinia, an opportunity and a challenge: we are lagging behind in awareness of the technological potential that this island can offer», reports the undersecretary for technological innovation Alessio Butti, who held several days on the island to assess the situation. «I have decided to reconfigure the national strategy for ultra-broadband, which we presented in April and which we will present in the next interministerial committee. We will redistribute resources with the collaboration of operators, institutions and the territory, without whose support this government will go nowhere. 5G in Sardinia is in some cities, but not in inland and in some tourist areas. We need a leap forward, alongside the territories, and there is no scientific evidence that 5G is harmful".
Investments. On ultra-broadband and connections, investments for Sardinia are around 550 million euros, within a 6.7 million project with funds from the PNRR which includes plans for connectivity in schools, hospitals, smaller islands , in buildings and the development of 5G. "We will try to invest them to give Sardinia the connectivity necessary to host tourism and launch an economy not strictly linked to it," adds Butti. "Without fast connections it is not possible to make any digital transition, it is a need felt by the Public Administration, citizens and businesses", the message of Angelo Borrelli, head of the Department for digital transformation.
