Operations by tugboats (one from Portovesme and the other from Sarroch) have continued all night and have been continuing since dawn to try to rescue the ship that broke down off the rocks of Punta Spalmatore di fuori, in Carloforte.
Weather conditions significantly complicated the operation: after moving the cargo ship away from the coast, the cables snapped.
Another attempt will be made to bring the vessel to a calmer area of sea in the Gulf of Palmas, near Sant'Antioco. All operations are coordinated by the Coast Guard.
The crew is still on board but has been secured. Further confirmation is pending regarding the reports that livestock were also on board.
The cargo ship Blue Ocean A, flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, a Caribbean country, was en route between Great Bitter Lake, Egypt, and Cartagena, Spain. The captain sent out an SOS during the night and dropped anchor off the coast of St. Peter Island.
