A preliminary project worth €3.3 million to obtain regional funding for the redevelopment and improvement of the sewer system at Scoglio Lungo , the beach on the Porto Torres coast where sewage discharges during heavy rains.

"The plan includes measures to separate rainwater from wastewater in the network ," explains Mayor Massimo Mulas, "so that rainwater can follow its own path without ending up in wastewater pipes. A separate pipeline will therefore be dedicated to rainwater, with a dedicated collection tank. At the same time, the wastewater pipe will be lowered and a new underground pumping station will be built."

Critical issues arise with every downpour, with manholes bursting due to the undersizing of the collector, and with black water mixed with white water ending up on the beach and in the sea of Scoglio Lungo.

The municipal administration had submitted a €3.3 million preliminary project to the Region to participate in a regional public tender to cover the costs of resolving a thirty-year-old problem. On Thursday evening, the same situation recurred following a water bomb that flooded the stretch of road along the seafront, creating a marshy river that flowed into the sea.

Yesterday morning, the municipality ordered the cleanup of the area, on one of the city's most popular beaches.
