Severe weather in Sardinia, red alert for flooding but flood risk reduced: summit to decide on reopening

With dams full due to rainfall brought by Cyclone Harry, flood alerts are being raised in Sardinia, at least in municipalities near river mouths. However, the hydrogeological risk has decreased , with the possibility of flooding and landslides. This, in summary, is the content of the new bulletin issued by the regional Civil Protection Department , which has called a video conference with mayors and prefects for 5 p.m. to decide on the possible reopening of schools and offices.

Therefore, the emergencies on the island are reversed, in a context of widespread easing of the malaise starting from tomorrow afternoon (21 January).

The problems are now hydraulic, including the integrity of the dams, which are overflowing and discharging into the sea. The Civil Protection Department has therefore decided to raise the flood alert to red for Campidano and Ogliastra until midnight tomorrow. The hydrogeological risk in these areas has been extended for another 24 hours. The same applies to Sulcis, where, however, the risk of flooding has been downgraded to moderate. Gallura is now orange on both fronts, while the Montevecchio Pischinappiu and Logudoro areas are yellow.
