Despite the unavailability of the church dedicated to Saint Lucia, this year too the community of Arixi is preparing to celebrate the feast in honor of the patron saint of the village in the best possible way . Tomorrow, Tuesday 13 December, is the day of the eagerly awaited Saint Lucia festival , one of the oldest traditions of Arixi, the small hamlet just under 3 kilometers from the town of Senorbì.
It is a festival that combines religious events and craft exhibitions with the display of typical Trexenta products on the stands promoted by the Beata Vergine Assunta parish and by the Confraternity of the Madonna del Rosario of Arixi. The ancient festival keeps the charm of tradition intact: the faithful from nearby villages, and in particular from Senorbì, reach the village of Arixi on foot, in a continuous pilgrimage between the sacred and the profane.
Tuesday 13 December the holy masses at 8.30, 9.30 in the shed used as a place of celebration . At 10.45, before the solemn mass of 11 celebrated by the parish priest of Sant'Andrea Frius Don Angelo Cardia, there will be a small procession in the park of Santa Lucia. The celebration continues in the afternoon: at 4.00 pm the procession back to the parish church and the Eucharistic blessing, followed by the chestnut party in Piazza di Chiesa organized by the Santa Lucia association.
The hope on the part of the faithful is that the works to make the church usable again will be carried out as soon as possible, to prevent the rites dedicated to the saint from having to be celebrated in emergency rooms in the future as well. The cult building has been in precarious conditions for years, as evidenced by the increasingly deep cracks along the walls. The checks carried out revealed the presence of important cracks in the external masonry of the facade exposed to the east as well as the possible detachment of stone material in the west facade and the widespread deterioration of the planking and roofing.
