The bodies of the three victims of the terrible accident which occurred on state road 291, near Tottubella, are available to the judicial authorities: two are in the Alghero hospital, one was transferred in the morning to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Sassari . The victims are Chiara Urgias, almost 17 years old, Christian Foddai, twenty years old, both from Sassari, and Antonio Luigi Murineddu, 41 years old . The prosecutor, Angelo Beccu, ordered the autopsies.

The three cars were seized and entrusted to an authorized warehouse. An investigation by the Sassari Prosecutor's Office will clarify the dynamics of the tragedy, even if there are few doubts: the basis of the head-on collision between a Mercedes and a Fiat 600 was a risky overtaking .

Some witnesses reportedly told investigators of high-speed maneuvers . From the testimonies and findings of the Carabinieri it seems that the Mercedes SUV, in the wake of another car, passed at high speed the rows of cars lined up in the direction of Sassari which were proceeding at a slow pace. Near a hill, the first car managed to get back into its lane, while the SUV driven by Murineddu continued overtaking, crashing into the Seicento carrying the two boys who was coming from the opposite direction.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday around 7.30 pm, at km 1,600 of the state road.

Immediately after the impact , a third car, a Fiat 500, was unable to avoid those obstacles in the middle of the road . Inside is a family: 50-year-old father originally from Sassari, 48-year-old mother from Carbonia and their 10-year-old daughter . The three were injured and, under code red, transported to the Santissima Annunziata hospital. However, none of their lives were in danger . The Alghero carabinieri and also a patrol from the Sassari flying squad are on site.

The firefighters had to work for a long time with shears and spreaders to make their way through the sheets of the crumpled cars. The bodies of the victims were trapped in the cockpits and there was every last hope of being able to extract them alive. In vain . They died instantly.
