The autopsy will be performed on Thursday in Sassari on the body of Giovanni Carta , who died last Thursday at the Santissima Annunziata hospital.

Deputy Prosecutor Erica Angioni has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death, entrusting coroner Franco Lubinu with the task of performing an autopsy.

The 91-year-old had been taken to the emergency room by his children on Saturday the 8th for some intestinal problems and, a day later, relatives had noticed that the man had some bruises and a wound on his eyebrow arch.

Hospital staff had explained the injuries by the man's alleged head hitting the edge of the bed, a version his children didn't believe, instead speculating that he fell from the stretcher. There's even a recording in which a member of the Geriatrics ward admits to the incident.

In the following days, after a CT scan revealed a hematoma on the brain, Carta's condition worsened, becoming in a vegetative state. The children filed a complaint with the police, later learning that an X-ray had revealed two broken vertebrae. Now the family wants to get to the bottom of things and understand what happened to their father.
