Four ethnic Roma people were sent to trial yesterday in court in Sassari, accused of having created an illegal landfill, and of burning, transporting and trading in dangerous waste. It was the preliminary hearing judge Giuseppe Grotteria who ordered the decision for the four, defended by the lawyers Marco Salaris and Giuseppe Onorato, all linked to the 2022 investigation, the year in which, in October, the Roma camp in via Piandanna was cleared of its inhabitants by sixty municipal police officers.

On that occasion, 14 people were also arrested, at the time under investigation for the same crimes that now see their compatriots going to trial, the only ones in the group who however chose not to plea bargain.

The investigation that had involved them had started a few months before the blitz, discovering the illicit trafficking of waste, the storage and disposal of rubbish through combustion, and the trade of the same waste outside the camp.
