Emergency rooms clogged in the province of Sassari , particularly in this period, with a notable increase in access, deemed unjustified and inappropriate .
«The surge in Covid cases, flu and respiratory infections does not justify the access of patients, even very elderly and fragile ones, which in fact should be discouraged as it amplifies the infectious risk for the patients themselves . In addition to increasing the waiting hours, it risks distracting the attention of operators from the real emergencies ."
The appeal to citizens was launched by Nicola Addis, president of the Order of Doctors and Dentists of the province of Sassari . «It is also very serious to try to bypass the long waiting lists by going to the emergency room. It means putting an already struggling system into crisis , taking away resources from cases truly in need of urgent care."
Another real urgency for the National Health Service is to strengthen the territorial network (Continuity of care, General medicine, Outpatient specialists, Community and Health homes), providing answers to citizens' health needs, avoiding improper access to hospitals.
