The body of Giovanni Carta , the 91-year-old who died in the Geriatrics ward of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari, has been returned to his family . The Sassari prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into his death.

Yesterday, coroner Franco Lubinu , commissioned by prosecutor Erica Angioni , performed an autopsy on the man, who had been taken to the emergency room on November 8th for intestinal problems. The next day, his children noticed bruises on his face, which medical staff attributed to the elderly man hitting his head on the edge of the bed .

The family, informed in the meantime after a CT scan of a hematoma on the 91-year-old's brain, do not believe this version and instead fear that their father fell from the stretcher, also because a subsequent X-ray revealed two broken vertebrae . This detail was not found in the autopsy. For this reason, they filed a complaint with the Carabinieri, while Carta's condition worsened, becoming in a vegetative state, and dying on Thursday, November 13th. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Saturday, November 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of Santissimo Nome di Gesù in Ottava, and will be officiated by Father Tonino Sassu.
