Sardinians and Corsicans together: «No more ghost ferries on the Strait of Bonifacio»
A demonstration was held to denounce the management of naval transportThe disruptions have now become chronic, systematic and those travelling on the routes between Sardinia and Corsica must expect to be stuck for days. A situation, that of the maritime connections between the two islands, which is seriously damaging entrepreneurs, artisans and the entire ferry user base. The independence movements Entula - Indipendèntzia and Sotzialismu, for Sardinia and Core in Fronte, a Corsican political group, demonstrated today in Santa Teresa Gallura, denouncing what they consider a «colonial and oligopolistic management of naval transport, which has held the Sardinian people hostage for decades» .
According to Pierluigi Caria (Entula) and Ulivieru Sauli (Core in Fronte), for too long the island institutions have shown a total lack of political will to ensure a stable connection for passengers and goods . The independentists say: «The only right to be protected is that of the Italian shipping companies to profit on the skin of Sardinian and Corsican workers, forced to travel on vehicles that are too old and inadequate and that for this reason very often remain in port due to breakdowns. The company of the shipowner Onorato was assigned the transport service to Bonifacio without any competition and has shown for the umpteenth time its contempt for the right of Sardinians to have adequate naval transport, reserving the worst vehicles of its fleet for the daily route between Santa Teresa and Bonifacio».
In reference to the latest episodes, the comment is this: « We believe that everyone has the right to be compensated by Moby Lines, which has culpably interrupted the public transport service due to the sorry state of its fleet , managed on a shoestring while collecting public funds and charging high prices for tickets in an almost monopolistic regime. We intend to explore all avenues, including legal ones, to protect the rights of migrant, seasonal and cross-border workers». Entula and Core in Fronte ask for a Sardinian-run fleet for a dignified and efficient public service.
