A large crowd this morning in the Basilica of Santa Giusta for the funeral of Alessio Porcu , the 25-year-old postman who died on Saturday night in a terrible motorbike crash .
Monsignor Roberto Caria officiated the ceremony. "I won't amplify the pain or say who Alessio was," he said in his homily. "We all know, he is in each of our hearts, and from heaven he will be close to you and help you overcome this moment so that the pain doesn't crush you."
Many colleagues from the contact details office, along with countless friends and motorcyclists, gathered at the basilica to pay their last respects to Alessio. Outside the church, the roar of engines and a release of balloons welcomed the coffin's exit.
THE ACCIDENT – The dramatic crash while Alessio was riding his blue Yamaha RSI struck a telephone pole at the exit of a curve, just meters from the church of Santa Severa. The violent impact left the young man with no chance of escape. Friends and colleagues rushed to the scene of the accident Saturday night , and yesterday there was constant commotion at the house on Via Padre Pio where the funeral chapel has been set up.
His mother Manuela (a pharmacist in Santa Giusta), his father Gian Franco (a laboratory teacher at Othoca) and his brother Filippo are torn apart by unimaginable pain.
Even Atletica Oristano, with which Alessio was registered for years, wanted to remember him yesterday with a photo of him in the shot put and a thought full of affection.
