Endless lines and waits of over sixteen hours at the emergency room of the Nostra Signora di Bonaria hospital in San Gavino . This is the report of Rossana Cabras, who, with her sister, accompanied her 77-year-old mother, Paola Lussu of Villacidro, after a fall at home .
"We arrived just before 9 pm on Monday and didn't leave until 1:30 pm the next day . It was an exhausting wait: young people with injuries from falls, women with chest pains forced to wait for hours." During the night, Cabras continues, "only two ambulances arrived, none with red code. We were told there was only one paid doctor on duty . When the shift changed at 8 am, with the arrival of two doctors, the situation didn't improve much."
Not only that: the crowding forced patients' relatives to move outside, under the scorching sun, because the waiting room was at capacity .
The management of the Medio Campidano Local Health Authority emphasizes that the high influx of patients with non-urgent situations puts pressure on the service and affects waiting times .
