The government's pressure to authorize the expansion of the RWM bomb factory in Sulcis is " inappropriate ," according to the Regional Council led by Alessandra Todde, through Industry Councilor Emanuele Cani. "The government has many open Sardinian issues on the table ," Cani emphasizes, "but we note a different level of commitment and attention toward major disputes involving , for example, the former Alcoa plant , Portovesme Srl , or the Porto Torres green chemicals industry , compared to the RWM situation."

Regarding the expansion process, "the regional president has already made it very clear," Cani recalls, "we have received the conclusion of the investigation from the relevant regional offices, and based on a reminder from several environmental organizations , we wanted to propose a supplementary assessment, which will be returned to us by the same offices in the coming days." Then, the councilor states, "we will make a decision, as is right, regarding the Regional Council's obligations to express an opinion on the matter." This decision must be made by mid-December, pursuant to the Regional Administrative Court's ruling filed on October 17, which, upholding Rwm Italia's appeal, required the regional administration to make a decision within sixty days.

The Council is due to rule on the company's request for an ex post environmental impact assessment, but at the end of September it suspended the process and took time "to further investigate the contents of a technical report submitted by environmental associations, which raises environmental and technical-procedural issues not previously considered."

The issue of the RWM plant in Sardinia has also hit the international press in recent days: the Financial Times dedicated an article to it titled "Italian pacifists block Europe's plan to increase munitions production."
