Mario Masala, the 40-year-old from Sassari who hit and killed Tonino Pirastru, 76, with his van yesterday in Porto Cervo, is under investigation for road homicide .

Yesterday the man was detained until late in the evening by the traffic police, assisted by the lawyers Giancarlo Frongia and Domenica Gala. He claims to have lost control of the vehicle to avoid an animal and decided not to answer the investigators' questions, then he was released and is currently at large .

But the investigation is ongoing, and his charge could soon be drastically changed for the worse .

Investigators are trying to accurately reconstruct the dynamics of what happened yesterday, also in light of what emerged after the accident.

Pirastru and Masala knew each other well : they were neighbors, they had argued and had even reported each other . A high-tension situation apparently due to a dispute over a border.

For this reason, the Prosecutor's Office is evaluating the position of the man driving the van, which could become worse.
