Safety first, urgent. Then the recovery work. And it is on the time frame included in that "then" that the fate of the residents and commercial activities distributed over fourteen street numbers in via Dettori and piazza Aramu, in the Marina district, in Cagliari depends. The buildings are at risk of collapse and the firefighters will not allow any intervention until it is possible to move without running risks on that street and inside the damaged buildings.
Mayor Paolo Truzzu, in the city council, has not drawn up a time schedule: times are currently unpredictable. But it provided the picture of the stages of the story.
«The evictions were decided when the first cracks were found», he explained, «an initial inspection was carried out yesterday morning (Monday, ed.), in which Abbanoa's technicians took part».
The possible cause of the subsidence, which led to the collapse of the structures, could be a water leak identified in the subsoil: "Abbanoa", continued the mayor, "has closed that section of pipe and created a bypass to guarantee the water supply for the rest of the district.
Having made a point, we must start to try to find a solution: "But first a structure must be created, made up of props and scaffolding, which secures the buildings on both sides of the road", because everyone has been damaged. The buildings will hold each other up. "With an emergency procedure, the professional and the company that will take care of the intervention have been identified," continued Truzzu. "The situation is not easy," he stressed. The damage count has yet to be done.
