Events are also underway in Quartu for World Refugee Day. Tomorrow at 6:00 PM, Spazio Pira, on Via Brigata Sassari, will host "The Challenge of Encounter." The event is organized as part of the Sai San Fulgenzio project by the Church of Cagliari, through the diocesan Caritas and the Caritas San Saturnino Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Quartu and the Diocesan Migrantes Office. The aim is to draw attention to the value of hospitality and the fundamental role of the community in the integration of migrants and refugees.

"This is an important opportunity," says Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi of Cagliari, "to reflect on the reception policies aimed at those forced to leave their homeland because their lives are threatened by war, persecution, or serious internal problems in their countries of origin. We need legal and safe avenues that guarantee relief, assistance, and genuine cooperation among all stakeholders: public institutions, volunteers, the Church, and the third sector ." At the same time, he emphasizes, "we are called to take a closer look at the suffering of these people, forced to abandon their homes and their history in search of hope in life, greater security for themselves and their children."

The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM with official greetings. Speakers will include the Archbishop of Cagliari, Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, and the Prefect of Cagliari, Paola Dessì. Other speakers will include Father Alfredo Fadda, parish priest of the Basilica of Sant'Elena; Enrico Porru, director of the Diocesan Migrantes Office; Lorena Cordeddu, expert in local government policies regarding migration; and Gabriella Serra, coordinator of the Sai San Fulgenzio project.

At 7:30 pm, there will be a panel discussion featuring Reem Adnan and Seedya Conteh, both of whom have led significant journeys of protection and inclusion.

"Welcoming is not an emergency, but a structural community choice that requires shared responsibility and participation," emphasized Father Marco Lai, director of the Diocesan Caritas of Cagliari and moderator of the meeting. "We are all, in some way, called to face the challenge of encounter."

The day will be enriched by the exhibition "Migrants, the Challenge of Encounter," curated by journalist Giorgio Paolucci, and will offer an important opportunity to discuss the experience of Sai San Fulgenzio, which has been committed for years to supporting refugees towards independent living, employment, and social life.
