Following the notification of the conclusion of the investigation into the murder of Cinzia Pinna, the defense team for Emanuele Ragnedda, who confessed to the crime, has taken a stand. Criminal lawyers Luca Montella and Gabriele Satta have signed a statement. The Arzachena businessman's two lawyers stated: "We welcome the conclusion of the investigation because this brings us closer to a real trial, after months of media-driven proceedings."
The lawyers, who rely on self-defense, further write: "Commenting on the provisional indictment, we can express our dismay at the transformation of even an allegation of self-defense into the aggravating circumstance of frivolous motive, whereas the entire prosecution fails to identify a single valid reason for ending the young woman's life other than Ragnedda's need to defend himself from an armed attack ."
"After eight months of silence, motivated by respect for the injured parties and the work of the investigators, the time has come to state clearly that Emanuele Ragnedda is not the monster the investigations portray him as ," the statement continues. "We are confident that the ongoing proceedings, based on the excellent evidence available to the defense, will prove this."
The charges raised by prosecutor Noemi Mancini, if confirmed at the preliminary hearing, will lead the case to the Assize Court without any possibility of alternative proceedings for Ragnedda. The defense believes there is only one explanation for the crime: the victim's reaction to an attack.
