The abbreviated trial into the prison escape of Marco Raduano , Foggia boss of the Vieste mafia clan, who escaped from Badu 'e Carros prison on February 24, 2023, ended today with ten convictions and two acquittals.
The Cagliari court recognized the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method .
Raduano himself was sentenced to two years and six months in prison . Salvatore Deledda (a prison officer defended by Stefano Stocchino and Erica Dessí) and Mauro Gusinu (defended by Agostinagelo Marras) were acquitted.

According to the Cagliari District Anti-Mafia Office—represented by prosecutor Danilo Tronci—the escape was made possible by a network of accomplices both inside and outside the prison . Raduano, captured in Corsica and now a cooperating witness, is ready to testify in the next stages of the trial.
The prosecutor had requested a sentence of one year and eight months for Raduano, but the court imposed a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence and a €1,600 fine. All defendants were tried under the summary trial procedure.
The sentences were as follows: Martino Contu received five years and four months in prison; Massimiliano Demontis three years and 10 months; Marco Furfaro four years and six months; Antonio Gusinu and Elio Gusinu five years in prison; Daniele Peron three years; Marco Rinaldi five years and four months; Tommaso Ruffert three years; and Gianluigi Troiano one year and eight months. The defense team consisted of attorneys Giuseppe Talanas, Gianluca Aste, Stefano Stochino, Erika Dessì, Francesco Marongiu, Sergio Milia, Giampaolo Murrighile, Potito Flagella, and Agostinangelo Marras.
Only two defendants—Antonio Mangia and Pietro Tolu, farmers from Orune—chose the ordinary trial , currently underway before the Court of Nuoro. Their defense is represented by lawyer Giancarmelo Serra.
