There was no premeditation, nor were there any aggravating circumstances such as cruelty or impaired defense. And the mitigating circumstances related to the defendant's procedural conduct must be recognized, which, by facilitating the filing of the prosecutor's file at the beginning of the trial, ensured the expeditiousness of the first-instance proceedings.
With these reasons, lawyers Carlo Demurtas and Laura Pirarba appealed the life sentence (with one year of solitary confinement) handed down by the Cagliari court against Igor Sollai, found guilty of the murder of his wife Francesca Deidda, which occurred in San Sperate on May 10, 2024.
The appeal was filed this morning. According to the defense's reconstruction, Sollai did not organize the femicide: the crime apparently occurred during an argument at the couple's home, when the man fatally struck the forty-two-year-old woman in the head with a sharp object, then hid her body along the old Orientale road, a short distance from the Roman bridge leading to San Vito.
The removal of premeditation and other aggravating circumstances would lead to a reduction in the sentence, as would the recognition of mitigating circumstances related to Sollai's conduct during the trial. He remained reticent for a long time during the investigation, attempting to deny any involvement in the woman's death, until his confession.
