On New Year's Eve 2018, Marcello Cuguttu, then 37, was stabbed three times in Ozieri by his partner during a violent argument.

The incident led to two trials, the first against the woman, Giovanna Sanna, who was convicted at first instance for assault and acquitted on appeal on grounds of self-defense.

Cuguttu himself was then sent to trial for slander because he had claimed that the woman had taken the knife to stab him, while, according to the prosecution, it was the man who had pulled it out of the kitchen.

Today, the court in Sassari heard this latest charge, with prosecutor Antonio Piras calling for a two-year sentence for the man.

The civil party's lawyer, Abele Cherchi, who has always followed the case, assisting Sanna, is of the same opinion.

The lawyer himself recalled how the second-degree court reconstructed the dynamics, leading to the hypothesis, based on the expert report by medical examiner Salvatore Lorenzoni, that the woman had acted in self-defense. She allegedly grabbed the gun after the 37-year-old had threatened her with it.

The man's lawyer, Antonio Secci, maintained Cuguttu's innocence. At the end of the deliberation , Judge Monia Adami acquitted the defendant because the facts were not proven . Attorney Cherchi has already announced he will appeal.
