"From the internal investigation that we carried out on the management of the case recorded at the pre-triage of the emergency room of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the correct behavior of our health workers emerges".
This is what we read in a note issued by the strategic direction of the Aou of Sassari regarding the affair of Alessia Nappi, the 25-year-old who reported being rejected by the obstetric emergency room of the San Pietro clinics, then losing the child.
A position that comes after a few days, since, explains the same management, “it was necessary to first complete a process that had been started, that is the internal investigation and then the visit of the ministerial and regional inspectors. And we did it with respect for the lady and our operators ".
"From the internal investigation - the Aou management said - it emerged that the lady arrived at the pre-triage of the emergency room in viale San Pietro at 12.35, she did not have to wait, she was calm and showed no signs of suffering . In other words, neither pain nor loss is reported ”. Again, it is specified, “in the structure, on the ground floor there were a midwife and an obs. After the temperature measurement, she was asked the usual questions: if she had been vaccinated and if she had a swab. "
On this last question, the general management specifies that “the tampon is not necessary to access the outpatient facilities and the emergency room, both general and specialist. In case it is done in the emergency room. As per ministerial provisions, the patient does not need to present the green pass or swab ".
Furthermore, according to what emerged from the internal audit, “at the pre-triage it was reported that the lady had carried out a pregnancy test which indicated a third week. It is a very early period - explains the company management - which does not allow for a certain diagnosis which, on the other hand, can be made after the fifth week, with ultrasound and blood sampling ”.
"The midwife who collected the information - continues the management - contacted the doctor on duty and, found that there were no details of an emergency-urgency, attributed a white code to the situation".
The white code, Aou points out, "identifies situations that should be handled by the general practitioner, gynecologist or midwife in clinics / counseling centers".
The lady was also suggested, "given the non-urgency", in the event of an outpatient visit, the possibility of performing the swab at the Gynecology and Obstetrics box, on the second sub-floor of the Palazzo Rosa on the following Monday. " In case of urgent access to the emergency room, the nasopharyngeal swab would have been done immediately, as usual ".
“She was then advised to go home, waiting watchfully, and to return in case pain and / or loss were present. No therapy was prescribed and the intake of a tachipirina was not recommended either. The lady has never returned to the gynecological emergency room for bleeding or to other hospitals in northern Sardinia ", the management then clarifies.
As for the visit of the regional and ministerial inspectors, the management makes it known that it will take some time to have their reports. "These - they explain - will be aimed at producing improvement actions as regards paths, procedures and protocols".
"We are close to the lady - adds the management - and, at the same time, we underline the fact that our doctors have always acted in the best way".
"We also express solidarity - concludes the note - towards our operators who in recent days have been the target of defamation and death threats, of which prefect and carabinieri have been warned".
