Trumpets blare, chants rise from the buildings, and the Italian and Four Moors flags flutter above the crowd. In Cagliari, the student protests continue : for the second day in a row , the streets are filled with slogans and signs denouncing the conditions of schools and demanding greater investment in education.
This morning, alongside the high school students, university students also took to the streets. "We're here to show solidarity with the high school students," explains Veronica Cugusi , a physics student at the University of Cagliari. "As scholarship recipients, we've experienced firsthand the challenges of the right to education, starting with high rents."
The march, which started from Piazza Garibaldi around 10:00 a.m. with at least 600 participants, retraced yesterday's route to the Regional Council building on Via Roma. Along the route, there were chants against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara. Smoke bombs were lit on Via Manno, while some youths reached the roof of a building to wave red flags as the protesters passed.
Meanwhile, the protest is seeking a dialogue with the institutions. Yesterday, Jacopo Melis, a student at Foiso Fois and representative of Gioventude Noa de Sardigna, joined three other students to speak with Camilla Soru, president of the Regional Council's Second Permanent Commission. Among the topics discussed was the proposal to organize a public meeting with a roundtable discussion between students and institutions on the Sardinian language.
