"My car is broken down and if I don't fix it I'll lose my job. Can you help me?"

A 77-year-old woman from Villamassargia was falling for the deception of a 54-year-old worker living in Carbonia, arrested by the Iglesias Carabinieri for aggravated fraud. The man had been in the military's sights for some time, because he had often been the protagonist of scams against the elderly, all in the Iglesias area. For this reason, the Carabinieri had alerted the businesses in the area, recommending that they immediately contact 112 if they noticed anything strange.

A request for collaboration that bore fruit: the manager of a store saw the scammer wandering among the shelves without buying anything, then approaching an elderly lady with apparent kindness. He had managed to persuade her that her car had broken down, stopped at the mechanic , without which she would not have been able to reach her workplace, thus losing her only source of income. Convinced by the plea and the story (completely false), the elderly lady had offered to pay the mechanic's high bill and recover the car.

Luckily, the Iglesias Radiomobile patrol was alerted and arrived on the scene in less than five minutes, managing to stop her just before she withdrew money from the ATM.

The 54-year-old was arrested and held in the Iglesias Company's holding cell awaiting the summary trial.
