"Mimosa, mastic, and wild olive trees felled to "open up" the sea view": the mayor of Siniscola reports.
Chainsaws in action on the coast at Sa Petra Ruja, Mayor Farris takes a strong stance: "A criminal act of stupidity."Mimosa, mastic, and wild olive trees were perhaps cut down with a chainsaw, and probably “only” to open up the view to the sea.
It happened in Sa Petra Ruja, on the Siniscola coast , where an act of violence sparked a strong response. Mayor Gianluigi Farris reported the incident after an inspection conducted with the municipal police yesterday. He issued a public appeal on social media yesterday for witnesses to come forward.
The incident reportedly occurred on Via Mar di Levante, near the sewage pumping station, in an area designated for environmental protection. The mayor did not hide his anger and bitterness, taking to social media to express his scathing words: "Here is the exploit of an idiot with criminal tendencies. I am speaking to you of one of our fellow citizens. A scoundrel who, in the Sa Petra Ruja area, specifically on Via Mar di Levante, near the sewage pumping station, decided to wipe out the mimosas, wild olive trees, mastic trees, and other plants we were caring for, so he could comfortably see the sea from his home . This outrage must not go unpunished, so if anyone saw this criminal at work, please do not hesitate to report him to the police or Carabinieri. I confess that I don't know whether I am more furious or more disheartened." I'm furious, because this is an illegal, immoral, stupid, and cowardly act. And I'm disheartened, because I love this land and I love nature in its entirety, and this is a crime against it, even more than against us who enjoy its sight."
Then the appeal: "Whoever knows, speak up. Without fear." The municipal administration is evaluating further action, but remains strongly urged for citizens' cooperation in identifying those responsible for what is being described as a veritable environmental disaster.
