"Lacks in security", cargo stopped in the port of Oristano

A cargo ship flying a foreign flag, with eight people on board , was stopped yesterday in port by the Oristano Harbor Master's Office .

The administrative detention order was triggered after an in-depth inspection , during which deficiencies related to the safety of navigation emerged and which, at the moment, prevent the restart until they are resolved by the shipping company.

The Coast Guard men found that the rescue boat was not functioning making it almost impossible to abandon the ship in an emergency; the exercises carried out on board have also shown that the crew was not prepared in case of evacuation from the ship or to deal with a fire on board.

A failure was also found in one of the main engines and a malfunction in the fire detection system .
