The meeting on Green Chemistry, which was supposed to be held in the canteen of the Porto Torres industrial area plant, began with a "serious affront" to workers.

Versalis-Eni staff refused to allow workers from individual companies—Novamont, Versalis, and Eni—into the facility, including warehouse workers, who were barred from attending the meeting held outside.

The meeting, organized by the CGIL Sassari union, focused on the request for the establishment of a steering committee to advance the Green Chemistry Project, which has been stalled for over ten years. The mayors of Porto Torres and Sassari, Massimo Mulas and Giuseppe Mascia, and the president of the Sassari Provincial Industrial Consortium, Simona Fois, were present. Also in attendance were Massimiliano Muretti, secretary of the Sassari Chamber of Labor, as well as Gino Giove, national secretary of the CGIL Sardinia, and Fausto Durante, secretary of the CGIL Sardinia.

The latest political step in this direction was the signing of the "Shared Position on Green Chemistry," at the headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Sassari on March 7, 2025. The project to convert the petrochemical plant into an innovative hub for sustainable chemistry has remained unfinished: hence the CGIL's decision to embark on a new path, supported at all levels—local, regional, and national.
