Fear erupted this morning in Quartu, where an elderly woman was struck on Via Leopardi at the intersection of Viale Colombo. In the fall, she struck her head on the pavement but remained conscious and her condition is not believed to be serious. Local police officers arrived on the scene and conducted an assessment, and an ambulance took the elderly woman to the emergency room.
The police will now have to determine whether the elderly woman was crossing at or near a pedestrian crossing.
The woman was immediately rescued by both the driver of the car and some passersby who retrieved an umbrella to shelter her from this morning's scorching heat, while waiting for help to arrive.
Viale Colombo and the surrounding streets continue to be extremely dangerous for drivers and pedestrians, especially during this summer period when the usual traffic is compounded by the hundreds of people heading towards Poetto.
Last year, Viale Colombo was the street with the highest number of accidents, 38, followed by Viale Marconi with 37 and Via Leonardo da Vinci, with 35.
