A shocking tragedy claimed the life of a motorcyclist: Roberto Basciu, 45, was returning home on his Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling along provincial road 95, in "S'Ecca s'Arrideli." He suddenly lost control of his vehicle and ended up under a car. A horrific collision left the motorcyclist dead instantly. Emergency medical services were unable to do anything but pronounce him dead. His body was later removed and taken to the morgue. A dramatic early afternoon after an equally horrific night in Villasimius, which saw the death of a 19-year-old scooter rider after a collision with a Fiat 600.

The alarm was raised immediately with the arrival of an ambulance. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for the motorcyclist. Roberto Basciu, who worked for a company in Macchiareddu, was married and the father of two children, aged five and six months . He lived near the scene of the tragedy. The Emergency Response team from the Quartu Local Police headquarters, led by Captain Massimo Valtan, responded to the scene to carry out legal investigations. Assistant Chief Luigi Cocco and Assistant Selectman Federico Pizzamiglio also worked alongside the officer who coordinated the inspection. The firefighters then towed the two vehicles involved in the accident; the magistrate's decision regarding the possible seizure of the motorcycle and car is now awaited. A report has already been filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office by the same officers who responded to the scene. The occupants of the car, driven by a woman, were unharmed. A minor was also aboard the car, who was not injured.
Mayor Graziano Milia learned of the tragedy immediately, expressing his "sympathy for the victim's family. We are all deeply saddened. A tragedy during these holidays." A few months earlier, a young woman had been hit by a car on the same street as she had just gotten off a bus. Residents in the area had also mobilized, with Mayor Graziano Milia himself intervening to pressure the Metropolitan City. "I don't know the circumstances of the incident," Milia said. "What is certain is that this street is very busy and narrow: it needs to be made safe. And that's what we're asking for once again."
