The mural painted on a wall of the World War II fort in the Quartu stretch of Poetto-Margine Rosso was erased in record time. Not a scribble, but a purpose-built drawing that caught the eye of the many beachgoers who flock to the beach during this period.

However, controversy immediately arose over the appropriateness of creating such a drawing on a historic site. Efforts were made to determine whether authorization had been granted, and the Amici dei Fortini association immediately raised the issue. So much so that in no time at all, a coat of white paint made the mural disappear.

"We reported the matter to see if the necessary permits were in place," said Emanuele Contu, president of the Amici dei Fortini association. "Evidently, whoever did it then decided to delete it to avoid any problems." Now, Contu adds, "as part of our efforts to enhance the historical artifacts dating back to the Second World War, we will soon organize a waste removal operation in the area around the two Margine Rosso fronts, along the Poetto seafront. This operation is essential due to the growing influx of swimmers and visitors to the area, which often leads to the accumulation and abandonment of waste both behind the beach and along the road." The association, in collaboration with Assfort, has also begun a census of all the forts in the area.
