These are tough times for traffic light cheats, for those who put others' lives at risk by running red lights. Quartu has received a new T-Red, a device capable of catching those who are running red lights in the act.
Following the one installed two years ago on Viale Colombo at the intersection with Via Bonaria, another has been installed on Route 554 near the intersection with Via Marconi. Inspections are currently underway, after which the T-Red will be activated.
Initially, it was considered for the other intersection of the 554, the one with Pitz'e Serra. But in the end, after the local police assessed the accident rate and risks, the intersection with Via Marconi was chosen, which remains one of the most dangerous crossroads. Thus, anyone who undertakes the daring maneuver of breaking the traffic light will face hefty fines: from €167 for daytime violations to €222 after 10:00 PM, with the deduction, in both cases, of six points from their license.
If you pay within five days, you get a 5 percent reduction. If you pay after 60 days, the fines rise to 332 euros during the day and 433 euros at night.
And on Viale Colombo the T-Red has already hit several traffic violators with a recent decrease: from July (when it was installed) to December 2024 the fines were 4032. In 2025, however, the fines rose to 3250 from January to December.
A decrease that is also recorded in the monthly averages: in January 2025 there were 317 fines, in January 2026, 229.
