The body of Michele Podda, the 81-year-old retired scholar and former mayor of Ollolai, who died this morning on his farm in Niu Crobu, has been returned to his family.
It was a tragic accident, with the judge not even ordering a post-mortem examination of the body. Michele Podda may have suffered a sudden illness before being reached by the flames. The investigation was conducted by the Quartu police station, which was present on the scene with its director, Ignazio Secci.
So much pain, so much drama for the tragic death of a man who marked his life between family, culture and politics for his Ollolai.
As a young man, he also taught the Sardinian language and culture in Belgium, to the children of Sardinian emigrants. It was the 1960s.
In Sardinia, he taught literature for twenty years in the high schools of Cagliari, where he had moved. In 1985, with some collaborators, he "created" "S'istrumpa," featuring competitions and "Gherradoris" from various countries. He wrote many prose poems and received numerous awards for his works.
