A big celebration in Quartu for Giovanna Bellisai, the city's oldest grandmother, who turned 106 today . In the living room of her home on Via Marconi, where she lives surrounded by the affection of her children, the grandmother is lively and cheerful, healthy and happy, with the natural ailments of her age. What worries her is the news that comes in every day on TV.

"All these wars scare me and are terrible," she says, "because they kill so many young people who will never have a future and who have the right to have another life." She doesn't like today's society: "too many taxes and too much crime." The days seem far away, she recalls, "when as young people we sat outside our front door with our scannixeddu on summer evenings to enjoy the cool air, leaving the doors open because everything was quiet. Now, however, if you leave the doors open, they steal everything from you."

Widowed for over twenty years, Giovanna Bellisai has always been a housewife: she raised her six children, and now she has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She reiterates that "I don't know how I got to my age. I eat everything, I like pasta, and I always drink a glass of wine ." Currently, her passion "is fishing with wine. I put it in a glass and then add all the wine, and it's delicious."
