Another accident has occurred in the Sant'Antonio neighborhood of Quartu, where a car and a van collided at the intersection of Via Merello and Via Principessa Jolanda. The collision was apparently caused by a failure to yield right of way, and local police, who arrived on the scene to conduct investigations, are reconstructing the exact circumstances of the accident.
Both vehicles were exiting an intersection with a stop sign. The intersection is one of the most dangerous in the entire city, and for this very reason, a double stop sign had been posted to encourage drivers to slow down.
The signs had also recently been repainted. Both the driver of the small car and the driver of the van with several passengers were injured, fortunately not seriously.
While for a long time there had been no accidents on roads with double stop signs, recently, primarily due to distraction and the high speeds of some drivers, the trend has changed. A similar accident recently occurred at the double stop sign between Via Brigata Sassari and Via Siena.
Double stop signals are present at several intersections: Via Vittorio Emanuele-La Marmora, Zara-Milano, Merello-Perra, Fadda-San Francesco-Via Cimitero, Diaz-Sicilia, Boito-Palestrina, Merello-Principessa Jolanda, Gramsci-Malipiero, Cagliari-Dante, Fiume-Fratelli Bandiera, Principessa Jolanda-Mercantini, and Manara-Vico. There was also an accident on Via San Benedetto, where a car crashed into the small roundabout, hitting the traffic signs.
