Protecting the sand, ensuring orderly use of beaches, and safeguarding coastal ecosystems. These are the guiding principles of the Sardinia Region's 2026 seaside ordinance , which confirms a series of rules and prohibitions designed to ensure the preservation of the natural heritage of the coastline and a balanced coexistence between tourism and the environment.

Among the provisions of the ordinance is a ban on removing sand, pebbles, rocks, and shells from the island's beaches . Violators face administrative fines of between €500 and €3,000, a measure aimed at combating a phenomenon that continues to jeopardize the integrity of the beaches.

The measure also reiterates the ban on crossing dunes and vegetated areas and limits access by vehicles to authorized situations or those related to service and rescue needs. The rules prohibiting littering, camping on beaches, and the occupation of public beaches with unattended umbrellas and equipment are also confirmed.

The ordinance also emphasizes the obligation to ensure free movement within five meters of the shoreline and introduces a series of requirements aimed at improving beach accessibility and swimmer safety. Special attention is also paid to the protection of marine fauna, with specific protection measures in place for sea turtles nesting along the Sardinian coast.
