Severe disruptions began yesterday afternoon and continued until dawn today due to the power outage in Settimo San Pietro. Everyone is affected, with Mayor Gigi Puddu addressing residents with an open letter today.
"Dear fellow citizens, what has been happening since yesterday afternoon is objectively disconcerting. Thousands of customers have been left—some unfortunately still are—without electricity for countless hours, causing serious problems for everyone, especially the elderly, children, the sick, workers of all kinds, and household appliances. The anger is immense and absolutely understandable," the mayor emphasized.
Adding to these inconveniences, "was also the lack of and inadequate information provided to residents regarding the time it would take to resolve the fault. This is not the first time this has happened, especially in summer, when temperatures are very high, as they are these days. Adding insult to injury from the unbearable heat is the power outage , preventing residents from finding relief through the use of air conditioners and other now-essential devices."
The justification is always the same: "Overloaded power lines. If this is the case, we fear that, also considering the weather forecast, these disruptions could occur again, and that would be extremely serious. Climate change is now evident to everyone, and experts have long been telling us that the situation is unlikely to change in the years to come. Therefore, we strongly urge those who manage the electricity service to equip themselves with maintenance and serious, adequate investments to improve the efficiency and upgrade the lines and guarantee a service that meets the changing needs of citizens and is worthy of a civilized country."
