"The Region , supported by the national government, is working hard to find the definitive solution to the crisis of Portovesme Srl and to preserve the strategic importance of the industrial sites of Sulcis and Medio Campidano ".

This was stated by the Councilors for Industry and the Environment, Anita Pili and Marco Porcu who this afternoon together with the trade union representatives – in the presence of Undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto, with responsibility for companies in crisis – met at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy the executives of Portovesme Srl and Glencore , who illustrated their project proposals .

«There are many problems to be tackled and solved – the councilors continue – and the conversion plan presented today by the Company still contains too many variables, which, if overcome, could represent a perspective for the entire industrial sector. It was a first meeting which, obviously, needs further investigations».

For Pili and Porcu «it is necessary for the company to materialize its commitment, therefore we asked for the timing of these projects . The company has ensured that during the next week, the first documents will be filed in the Region . Furthermore, we have also requested an adequate solution for the San Gavino plant, which must absolutely be recovered». "Should the start of new production lines materialize - added the Councilor for Industry - it will be necessary to maintain a configuration that allows to safeguard the occupation of the human resources employed so far in the running lines or in professional updating".

"The offices of the Department of the Environment are ready, as soon as they receive the projects, to examine them to give the necessary answers as soon as possible", concluded Porcu.
