Sick of gambling , without the power to stop, an impossible life that compromises their existence and that of their family.
In the city of Porto Torres on pathological gambling (Gap) alarming numbers have been reached and in recent months the situation seems to have worsened. The most consistent item is represented by slot machines , the infamous "slot machines" present in game rooms, bars and tobacconists.
In 2019 , before the pandemic, almost 22 million euros were spent on slot machines and various forms of gambling: on average just over a thousand euros per resident (Ats Sardegna data). And the trend in the post-pandemic period appears to be far from declining. Therefore, there is a need to act with concrete actions to counter the spread of pathological gambling, also with the establishment of a permanent consultation against cash games , promoting an entire day a year dedicated to the fight against gambling, to make more effective the action of the municipal administration of Porto Torres in the fight against the disorder of gambling addiction.
The problem was raised by the Psd'Az council group which consulted the mayor Massimo Mulas and the councilor for social services, Simona Fois , "to find out if a study was launched for the years 2020-2021 in order to have a photograph on the problem of pathological gambling in the city ”, underline the councilors Bastianino Spanu and Alessandro Pantaleo .
The Sardist exponents intend to "know how many people and families in Turrian live this dramatic situation and what educational methods have been put in place with respect to the problem in order to support those who ask for help".
