Porto Torres, fear in Via Azuni: debris rains down from an old building

Fear struck on Via Azuni, a few steps from the Avis Porto Torres office. A shower of debris fell from an old Italian Railways depot near the Port Museum.

The cornice of the now abandoned building has collapsed, becoming a haven for birds that have contaminated the interior with guano. This imposing red brick building is in a state of disrepair and requires safety measures.

Local firefighters responded immediately to the scene to remove the dangerous parts and cordon off the area . Local police officers were also present to control traffic.

The road was temporarily closed to traffic to allow for safety measures . Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach the upper part of the building, where the most significant damage occurred. The alert was issued by Avis workers who had also identified danger signs on the side walls of the building.
