The agents of the Porto Torres local police have scheduled an inspection in the area where the former Ferriera Sarda stands, the iron rod factory abandoned in 1979 classified among the buildings at high asbestos risk.

In the next few days, the men from the municipality will go to check whether the ordinance to make the site safe, issued by Mayor Massimo Mulas following the structural failure of the roof made up of asbestos fiber cement sheets, was carried out by Laterizi Torres srl, the company that owns the factory located in via Marco Polo, in the industrial area of Porto Torres.

The term of ten days established to allow the restoration of sanitary conditions has expired, in case of non-compliance a fine will be issued which varies from 25 to 500 euros. In that period of time the company had to provide, through a specialized company, for the removal and disposal of all waste and debris containing asbestos still present on the road, including those deposited in an uncontrolled manner in the pertinent area of the same industrial plant .

Within 20 days of notification of the ordinance, however, Laterizi Torres will have to ensure the safety of the roof and any other unsafe part of the complex, in order to protect public safety and urban security.
