"The dogs are doing well. We've started antibiotic therapy to treat the female's cystitis, and we've photographed the apartment to understand the hygienic conditions the animals lived in."
Andrea Sarria, director of the Stray Animals and Animal Registry Unit at the Sassari Local Health Authority, spoke yesterday afternoon at the Porto Torres residence on Via Buonarroti. He reassured everyone about the condition of the two rottweilers, Ciro and Asia, who were left unattended and without assistance inside the apartment after their owner was arrested for violating house arrest.
The rescue operation was carried out by ASL veterinary staff in collaboration with local police officers under the command of Katia Onida. "These aren't two ferocious beasts," Sarria explains, "but rather animals in some distress who will receive all the necessary care."
The request for urgent joint intervention with the Local Health Authority's Registry and Stray Animals service to verify the animal's welfare was made by the Porto Torres Local Police headquarters following the owner's arrest. The two rottweilers are now being held and monitored at the Monte Rosè municipal kennel.
