New investments totaling over €123 million in port infrastructure, currently in the planning phase, will redevelop the Porto Torres port. The port is beginning to transform with projects already completed (€13 million) and ongoing (€52 million), totaling approximately €200 million, capable of improving the port's operational efficiency and its integration with the city. Domenico Bagalà, the new Special Commissioner of the Sardinian Sea Port System Authority, took stock of the port's infrastructure projects and future prospects. He responded to the call of the Porto Torres Municipality's Port Commission, chaired by Gavino Ruiu and requested by Councilor Bastianino Spanu.

"The key turning point for this region could be the Northwest Sardinia logistics platform, an €86 million project that, with the construction of a reclamation basin in the port basin between the base of the breakwater and Eni's dry products dock, will allow the use of the quay and space for the cargo sector and for new production initiatives," explains Commissioner Bagalà, who declares his willingness to focus on shipbuilding to create more berths, "a potential with a high multiplier factor, a sector we will pursue with all our energy, finding the necessary funding to achieve this goal." The focus is also on Mediterranean cruises, a sector that has seen positive feedback with the latest call of the Costa Fascinosa. At the meeting, convened yesterday morning in the council chamber of City Hall, attended by Mayor Massimo Mulas, the individual commissioners, the commander of the Port Authority, Mirko Orrù, the engineer and general secretary of the Port Authority, Marco Mura and Natale Ditel, and Alghero city councilor Michele Pais, Commissioner Bagalà emphasized the importance of synergy between the Ministry, the Region, the Municipality, the Port Authority, the Industrial Consortium, and the Maritime Authority in building a package to offer investors. "I intend to commission a study to implement marketing tools to understand who will want to invest in the port area," he stated, "at a favorable time from a geopolitical standpoint, when we want to align our decisions with market demands." The secretary of the Port Authority, Natale Ditel, relaunched the initiative with the proposal of a Program Agreement between public administrations such as the Port Authority, the Municipality, and the Industrial Consortium "to lay the foundation stone for the reclamation basin." The facility will have a capacity of 2.3 million cubic meters and will receive excavated material from the civic port. The modular structure will allow for the use of the quay in functional sections, until completion for a logistics platform, the cornerstone of Bagala's policy, shared with all stakeholders. The port has already taken on a modern dimension with the completed works, starting with the passenger lounges in the Western and ASI piers (€1.5 million); the new lighting in the commercial and industrial ports (€800,000); the Travel Lift in the final testing phase (€5.6 million); and the Service Center (€4 million). The commissioner confirmed compliance with the schedule for the construction of the Western Breakwater, a strategic project for increasing traffic safety. This €36 million project has exceeded 20 requirements, including the final pre-construction monitoring of the Cetacean Sanctuary, which postponed the start of construction until September 30. The installation plan will continue until December 30th, and the transfer of the first caissons from Piombino will begin in early 2026. Work is expected to be completed in December 2027 and will last 30 months. Also underway is the "Millepiedi" hydraulic system for capturing marine energy (€3.8 million), a project that resulted from the restoration of a damaged caisson, with the installation of an innovative hydraulic machine capable of generating energy by exploiting wave motion. Finally, the electrification of the docks, with a system for connecting electrical power to docked ships (€13 million).
