A car caught fire overnight in Porto Torres . It happened shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Via Rocco Chinnici, where a Golf belonging to an AOU employee from Sassari was parked. The vehicle was completely destroyed by flames.
On-site firefighters did everything they could to limit the damage. CCTV footage confirms the act was intentional: footage shows a hooded man approaching the car and setting it on fire, before fleeing.
" A tragedy could have happened," the owner of the vehicle declared. "The car was parked in front of a gas meter that supplies about ten houses. The flames were about to reach that panel, and I can't imagine what could have happened." The car was quickly moved to avoid damaging other parked vehicles.
Carabinieri from the Porto Torres branch also arrived on the scene and are investigating the incident. The owner will file a report this morning. "We're afraid," he said, "because they don't know why it happened. We have no enemies."
