Interior Minister Piantedosi in Cagliari: «We will strengthen the police forces»

The provincial committee for public order and security convened by the prefect Giuseppe De Matteis met in Cagliari , and was also attended by the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi.

The owner of the Interior Ministry arrived on the island in the morning and immediately stopped in Sinnai to meet the students of the State Comprehensive Institute 2 , who have been carrying out projects on the topic of legality and the fight against bullying for years. «There is no terrorist alarm in Sardinia linked to what is happening in the Middle East but we are keeping our attention high» , the minister said first.
In addition to Piantedosi and the police chief, Vittorio Pisani, and the prefect De Matteis, the mayor of Cagliari, Paolo Truzzu, the police commissioner Paolo Rossi and the provincial commanders of the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza were also present at the table.
Several problems related to safety in Sardinia were addressed. And the minister announced that "there will soon be reinforcements for the police force."

The island confirms itself as fertile land for drug trafficking and for the cultivation of marijuana: «This is something we are following with various investigations», Piantedosi specified.

On immigration, doors open to regular immigration , "also as a help to combat the depopulation of internal areas even if other policies are needed to address this problem" and "maximum attention to irregular immigration".

Is the Island a gateway for possible criminals who take advantage of illegal immigration ? «Even in this case – highlighted Piantedosi – our intelligence has shown that it can intercept any alarms ».

On the presence of possible mafia activities in Sardinia, after the recent investigation by the ROS which revealed possible infiltrations between crime and institutions, the minister clarified: «We are in an initial phase of the investigations. I would like to rule out the possibility that there are structured mafia organizations on the island , but even in this case we need to keep our attention high."
Before going to Sinnai for the meeting with the school and the young people and before the committee, the minister also visited Asseminello, the sports center of Cagliari Calcio, meeting the rossoblù club, the players and the coach Claudio Ranieri.

«I carry Gigi Riva's Cagliari football feat in my heart. Now it's a complicated moment but I'm sure that this club, with this coach, will be able to get out of it. Maybe my visit – concluded the minister smiling – will bring good luck."
