Energy is one of the largest expenditures for Italian families and businesses.
According to Confartigianato, consumer prices for electricity, gas, and other fuels recorded between January and July 2025 were 49.8% higher than the 2021 average. This figure is almost triple the overall inflation rate for the same period, which was 17%.
The survey was presented during the 21st edition, which concludes tomorrow at Chia Laguna, of the Energies and Transition Confartigianato High School convention, organized by Confartigianato in collaboration with its energy consortia: Caem, CEnPI, and Multienergia.
Among the guests were economist Carlo Cottarelli , who suggested a spending review on energy and called for a focus on nuclear power, but above all Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
On nuclear energy , the minister said: "It's necessary, because renewables alone aren't enough. We're working for the future: it's not a measure for today, but a legal framework within which we can operate."
Pichetto then announced that the nuclear power bill is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers this evening. Regarding the onslaught of renewables in Sardinia , he explained: "The requests for wind and photovoltaic energy are the result of a liberalization that occurred in the past, which we will try to stem because an excessive number of requests for wind power are not even compatible with our grid."
Finally, regarding coal, "which I could have shut down," Pichetto believes production is expensive and polluting: "We've settled the dispute with Sardinia; it was the last region still running on coal. Natural gas will arrive by ship, and we'll connect the island from Porto Torres and Oristano."
